Living the values we promote is an important cornerstone of Arup’s success. Here are some of the internal initiatives we have undertaken at our offices across Australia to ensure we continue to make a positive contribution:

Indoor Environmental Quality

In Sydney the office layout was designed to maximise daylight and external views to increase the connection to the outdoors. In addition, 734 plants were installed in the offices to improve indoor air quality and staff productivity.

Energy

We have installed energy efficient equipment and lighting to reduce energy consumption. By installing meters we can also monitor and set targets for energy reduction.

Transport

Using buildings that offers cyclist facilities, along with our green transport plan will reduce the travel related emissions of our staff. In addition, the introduction of three video conferencing facilities is reducing our need for air travel.

Water

In Sydney we have installed waterless urinals, high efficiency dual flush toilets, and high efficiency taps to reduce impact on water consumption.

Materials

Where new furniture has been purchased, it has been selected based on its certified reduced environmental impact. Other offices are also implementing energy efficient initiatives. For example our Brisbane office is among the first in Queensland to be registered under the Green Star Office Interiors program.

Furthermore, all our fleet vehicles have been registered with GreenFleet® which offsets the emissions associated with running the vehicles through carbon sequestration.
