Kurilpa Bridge

Kurilpa Bridge (Brisbane, QLD) provides a pedestrian and cycle crossing over the Brisbane River in Queensland. The competition-winning design is a world first, with a unique tensegrity superstructure.

Sculptural in appearance, the bridge is a multi-mast, cable-stay structure based on principles of tensegrity, a first in city bridge construction.

Arup was entirely responsible for the engineering design of the bridge. It is one of the first large-scale solar powered pedestrian bridges in the world, with 84 photovoltaic panels powering its sophisticated LED lighting scheme.
